[Day: Unknown. Time: Also unknown.] [We... jeezus Cham, this is bizzare.] (It settles down a little after the next song.) (You broke the mind of the inventor of Mystery Club. You have to get props for that.) [Ahem. We open in a nice meadow with foot-high grass and white flowers. The meadow is surrounded by 10-foot high cliffs with a few narrow passes between them here and there. Near one of the cliff walls is an old stone windmill: There's a huge hole in the roof, and the blades are bare of cloth.] (A Don Quixote approaches! Play music for it?) [Buried somewhere in the grass is Alys and Ten! Khalil is somewhat less buried, due to his not-feeling-like-human-right-now effect.] [And they're all just waking up!] [Session Start!] (I have played this on RFM, at least.) (We loves it so.) d3 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Brett (d3) and gets a natural 3 for a result of 3. * Ten beebs softly somewhere in the grass. * Alys sneezes and sits up. "Well, this is nice. If I had to get knocked unconscious during a fight and end up dreaming something, this is a pretty good dream to have." * Griff_Khalil raises himself up and flexes his feathers, rolling his wing around as his hand massages it. "What exactly has happened to us?" d2 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Brett (d2) and gets a natural 1 for a result of 1. Hey! Are you a real Khalil, or a dream Khalil? * Griff_Khalil turns towards Alys's voice. "I believe I am a... one moment. Let me check." He checks to make sure the bullet wounds from earlier are still there. * Ten stands up, and the top of her head is only six inches above the grass. She turns in a slow circle and finaly stops while facing Alys. [They sure are.] [As a side note, it's quite clearly daytime.] * Griff_Khalil pokes the bullet holes gently. "Yes, yes. I do believe I am the real Khalil." Oh, it's Volt's doll! Are you okay, Ten? Are we all that are around at this time? Yes. Where is. Volt? * Alys stands up and scoops up Ten into her arms. "I don't know." She faces Khalil. "Looks like it. Unless the others are hiding." * Griff_Khalil stops and concentrates on his hearing to see if he can hear any more rustling in the grass further away or anyone else's breathing who might be buried or unconscious. * Ten doesn't restist Alys, and Khalil can't hear her breathing because she doesn't. ( Gimme sight checks, +3 ) 2d8+3 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Ten (2d8+3) and gets a natural 8 for a result of 11. 2d8+3 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Alys (2d8+3) and gets 5, a CRITICAL SUCCESS!!! "Fight! For everlasting love and peace!" (Nope!) (Alys wins!) (Whoo!) 2d8-3 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Griff_Khalil (2d8-3) and gets a natural 5 for a result of 2. [Some distance away, there is another figure in the grass, pushing itself up with one hand and rubbing its head with the other. And... something else some distance away: the air seems distorted, somehow.] 2d8-3 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Griff_Khalil (2d8-3) and gets a natural 14 for a result of 11. * Griff_Khalil peers at the figure. "Someone is over there." * Alys jumps and starts running in the opposite direction of the distorted air. "Gah!! Creepy thing!" * Ten is just along for the ride. (And are these things in different directions?) * Griff_Khalil watches Alys and puts out his hand. "Wait! We must stay together!" ( They form a triangle with you :P ) He. Is. Right. * Alys skids to a stop and sighs. "Oh, fine." She pulls a ward out of her pocket with her free hand and looks warily toward the distorted air. Simply being here is creepy as is. I do not believe we will escape it by simply running away. But what did you think you saw? [The other figure rises to its feet. It's too far away to make out any details.] It's a big creepy monster and it's moving towards us and I didn't think it, it's there. And since you said I'm not dreaming, I'm not taking the chance that I'll wake up when it kills me. * Griff_Khalil turns around. "Where?" * Alys points vaguely at the distorted air. "There. You don't see it?" * Ten swivles her head in the indicated direction. * Griff_Khalil looks at the air carefully, squinting his eyes. [You certainly hear it, as whatever it is screeches and charges. Gimme init rolls!] 2d8+7 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Ten (2d8+7) and gets a natural 14 for a result of 21. 2d8+13 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Alys (2d8+13) and gets a natural 11 for a result of 24. 2d8+14 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Griff_Khalil (2d8+14) and gets a natural 4 for a result of 18. [Alys, Figure, Ten, Khalil, Monster.] [Alys's turn!] (Does the monster get a description?) * Alys throws the ward she's holding at the monster. 2d8-2 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Alys (2d8-2) and gets a natural 7 for a result of 5. [It's distorted by ear, but looks about the sice of a rhino, with a wide mouth full of pointy teeth.] ( air :P ) (Color?) (And assuming size of a rhino) [Alys's ward lands! It starts burning, and the monster becomes visable. It's big and grey, with a thick hide and large horns.] [The figure starts rushing over towards you and the monster, too!] [Ten's turn] * Ten holds onto Alys's arm! (and that's it.) [Khalil's turn!] * Rowyn (rowyn2001@adsl-69-107-139-192.dsl.pltn13.pacbell.net) has joined #besm (Khalil dies!) * Sleepmancer is now known as Segev [Khalil's turn!] * Griff_Khalil (rowyn2001@adsl-69-107-139-192.dsl.pltn13.pacbell.net) Quit (Ping timeout) * Rowyn is now known as Griff_Khalil * Brett sets mode: +v Griff_Khalil * Griff_Khalil looks at Alys. "Shall we get away?" Yes please now! * Griff_Khalil picks up Alys and Ten and then flaps with his wings, flying generally away from the monster, but towards the figure until they can get a better look, just in case it's one of their crew. [The monster roars at Khalil, then turns around and charges the other figure.] Oh, wow, this is really nice. I don't know why you don't just stay like this all the time and- am I heavy? I can handle the weight. But as for your answer, this form makes social interaction quite difficult. * Ten continues to hold onto Alys's arm and she probibly won't be letting go any time soon. Okay, sorry. [Said figure stops moving and faces the monster head on. The monster charges, and Khalil gets just close enough to see Rachel finish chanting her spell before she tosses a spear of light at the monster. The spear hits it's side and sticks in for a moment, then explodes.]] It is also that I cannot always choose to remain in this form anyways. * Griff_Khalil sighs. "Should we save her too? I trully do not wish to but I feel it is an obligation." (*laughs) She. May. Save. Herself. She's really mean. We should ignore her and check out the windmill. Yes. ( 'Night, all. ) [The monster keeps coming, but one light ball later and it's down.] * Griff_Khalil shakes his head. "Very well. Democracy is a fascinating form of government, is it not?" * Griff_Khalil turns and veers towards the windmill. * Alys (Wingdance@24-159-189-86.dhcp.kgpt.tn.charter.com) Quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer) ( orz ) * Alys (Wingdance@24-159-189-86.dhcp.kgpt.tn.charter.com) has joined #besm [You head towards the windmill! .... yep. There's got to be something useful in here. The absence of useful things would deny the logic of every single video game I have ever played. Which isn't many, but still. (For the record, I'm done with the Kehoe Nation stuff.) ( Back ) Life is not similar to a video game. Although there are times when I do wish I could acquire a power-up or two from a certain type of soda. There. Must. Be. A. Reason. For. This. To. Exist. And extra lives! That would be awesome. And another thing I don't really want to test. Did you not get a glimpse of the title of the book before we came here? [Inside the windmill is a stone carving, about a foot high: "1up"] No, I... * Alys stares at the carving. * Ten looks at it. I am just hoping it was not Don Quixote. [It's a big stone carving of a one and the letters u and p, all attached to each other.] Ten, do you have scanners? Can you scan that for... evilness, or something? I. Do. Not. Have. The. Appropriate. Equipment. To. Do. That. Oh. Well, only one way to find out. Do your wards not work in that sense? Hey, yeah! Two ways to find out! * Griff_Khalil slaps his forehead. * Alys walks in and puts a ward on the carving. (It explodes!) ( It starts crying! ) (IT BECOMES A SOUL-DEVOURING MONKEY) (It eat Alys's hand) [It does nothing at all.] (awwww.) (How anti-climatic. ;_;) Hopefully that means it is not evil. * Alys smiles, pockets the ward, and taps the carving with her hand. ( What do you expect? It's a rock :P ) (The gazebo eats you.) (The rock is also cursed) (It could be an evil, toothy rock. In disguise.) [It's cold and rocklike. Alys does not feel like she got an extra life. But who knows?] This is disappointing. And possibly false advertisement. We should sue. Maybe it is not trully an extra life but a hint? * Griff_Khalil looks up from where the carving was. [Nothing special up there.] Well. It was a theory. One up. I have no idea what that could mean. Do you think the monster ate Rachel by now? Or the other way around? Is. There. Anything. Else? I believe I saw her surviving quite well out of the corner of my eye. Such the pity. * Griff_Khalil looks around for any other clues. * Amanda (06arv@williams-222-127.williams.edu) Quit (Quit: If you ever lose your way, a butterfly will flap its wings / From a million miles away, a little miracle will come to take you home) * Alys pokes her head outside to see how Rachel is doing. [Rachel is heading towards one of the paths out of the meadow.] She's alive. But not heading towards us, so that's good. (There a path to/from the windmill?) ( There's no man-made paths, no. ) Okay, at this point, I'm all for exploring other options. We could follow Rachel? Discretely and from a very long distance? * Griff_Khalil looks towards the top of the windmill. If. There. Is. Nothing. Else. It will be easy from up high. Of course, it is possible knowing that I am on the team she might expect that more. * Jexless is now known as Jex * Grysar (Grysar@pool-138-88-168-75.res.east.verizon.net) has joined #besm * ChanServ sets mode: +o Grysar * Grysar sets mode: -o Grysar [Nothing special up there.] * notboptoo is now known as zimboptoo Not a thing that I can see. Just a big freespinning, cloth bladed propeller? @_@ ) ( Yep! ) * Pocky-kun (Pocky-kun@ACC5C469.ipt.aol.com) has joined #besm ( Except most of the cloth has been stripped off by now. ) (Great, we're inside somebodies folly.) If. There. Is. Nothing. Here. We. Should. Move. On. Flying time! Let's go! [By now, Rachel is long gone.] * Griff_Khalil just peers at Alys for a long while before responding. "...you are getting far too much enjoyment out of this." You're just jaded about the whole flying thing. I think it's great. Ten, don't you think it's great? * Ten flaps her own snowflake-styled wings, but doesn't create any lift. "Yes." * Griff_Khalil looks in the direction that Rachel went and then picks Alys up again, shaking his head. "You are a fool." * Alys sticks her tongue out at him but doesn't actually say anything, since he's going to be the only thing between her and a long drop in a moment. * Griff_Khalil flaps up into the sky and after Rachel. "I like to fly." [Khalil takes flight! And sees that the horizon is... um, close. At least in the direction Rachel went.] (Any other landmarks around?) [There's a big mountain range to your left.] [And the horizon only gets closes as you approach. After a bit, you finally come to the end of the world: The land drops off and is lost in clouds below. Rachel is walking along this cliff, towards the mountain range.] There she is. Shall I keep my distance? I guess. D'you think she knows where she's going? No. But she seems to at least fake it better than we are. * Grysar is now known as Grydlish I guess we could just go ahead of her, right? No point in following a lost person. [After a bit of walking, Rachel gets to the mountains. She stops at a gate in the mountainside, and adopts a thinking pose, folding her arms and cupping her chin.] (It go into the mountain, or just on a path up or what?) [The gate in question is made of stone, with two sculptures of monsters resembling a cross between a lizard and an eagle on either side.] ( I'm getting to it. Jeez. ) * Jex is now known as Jexless [It goes into the mountain, yes.] [And each of the creatures has a sphere in its mouth: Red on the left, blue on the right.] We could. Although it might be good to let her go ahead first in case there are any more monsters to be encountered. First. The. Gate. * Griff_Khalil stops, flapping in place and looking at the gate. ( Gimme sight checks at +4 ) 2d8+4 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Alys (2d8+4) and gets a natural 3 for a result of 7. 2d8+4 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Ten (2d8+4) and gets a natural 8 for a result of 12. 2d8-2 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Griff_Khalil (2d8-2) and gets a natural 4 for a result of 2. (Not a chance) (A winner is us.) [Rachel goes up to each orb and... kisses it? Not exactly. Alys and Khalil can see she's whispering something. The gate slides open, and she heads in.] It. May. Close. After. Her. 2d8-2 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Griff_Khalil (2d8-2) and gets a natural 7 for a result of 5. [In fact it does. SLAM] * Griff_Khalil blinks. "It cannot be that simple." Hm? What. Did. She. Do? * Griff_Khalil flies up to the gate, slowly, landing in front of it. "The words." He clears his throat, ruffling his neck feathers, and goes up to the blue orb first. * Rowyn (rowyn2001@adsl-69-107-139-192.dsl.pltn13.pacbell.net) has joined #besm * Griff_Khalil (rowyn2001@adsl-69-107-139-192.dsl.pltn13.pacbell.net) Quit (Ping timeout) * Rowyn is now known as Griff_Khalil * Segev is now known as Sleepmancer * Griff_Khalil speaks to the blue orb. "Abra." He then goes to the orb on the other side. "Cadabra" * Ten watches the gate. [You know that buzzer sound on www.homestarrunner.com? It makes that. "BZZZT!"] * Griff_Khalil scratches his head slightly. "That is odd. I am certain that's what she said." Maybe you did it in the wrong order? * Ten looks at the pillars. "Try. Again." No. I am certain she said it in that order. It is possible that it only reacted to her voice. Or a female voice. Or the whisper. ( Lagging pretty bad here. ) (Although...) I'll try, then. * Alys walks up to the blue orb and whispers, "Abra," then goes up to the other one and whispers, "Cadabra." * Brett (vortex@pool-68-238-35-165.scr.east.verizon.net) Quit (Ping timeout) (Brett may have made a mistake in the description anyhow :P) * Brett (vortex@pool-68-238-35-165.scr.east.verizon.net) has joined #besm * ChanServ sets mode: +o Brett * Brett sets mode: +v Alys * Brett sets mode: +v Griff_Khalil ( Someone catch me up ) (Revoiced! Come on, before it closes. * Griff_Khalil goes through quickly, muttering something in Arabic. ( Khalil's Arabic! He should be good at opening sealed magical gates controlled by verbal commands. ) [Inside, it's... dark.] (Unfortunately, he can only open the ones that use "Open Sesame" not "Abracadabra") ( What about "Open! Allah commands you!" ?) * Griff_Khalil goes in without a problem. The advantages of being half raptor. Oookay, I can't see anything at all. Anyone have a torch? Or want to lead me? I. Cannot. ( Hold onto my tail. Okay! ... that is not my tail. ... oh. Wow. ) (... -2 points, Jesse) ( Aww. ) * Griff_Khalil lets out a deep sigh and faint growling grumble. "Alright. I shall lead." * Alys holds out her hand. ( Hearing checks! ) 2d8 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Ten (2d8) and gets a natural 6 for a result of 6. (Made!) * Griff_Khalil gives Alys his tail. "It is easier this way." He says simply. "But you must stick close." He pauses for a moment, then adds, "And do not pull too hard." 2d8-6 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Griff_Khalil (2d8-6) and gets a natural 13 for a result of 7. 2d8 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Alys (2d8) and gets a natural 8 for a result of 8. [Up ahead, you hear voices. And Khalil and Ten can make them out!: "I cannot be destroyed! I will always return!" "And when you do, we'll be there to sto-" it cuts off abruptly.] * Griff_Khalil facefaults. "Whatever that was was probably destroyed." * Griff_Khalil starts walking towards the only way to go. Or. A. Movie. [It starts up again, different men talking this time: "This is our second meeting..." "Trust me, there won't be a fo-" and then stops.] A rather poor movie. * Alys follows, swinging Khalil's tail a bit as she walks. * Ten hangs onto Alys's arm and gets carried in. * Griff_Khalil 's tail bristles and he stops for a moment. "...stop that. Please." [As you get closes, the corridor widens into a medium-sized room with a domed top. And, indeed, there's apparently movies on the walls. There's also a stone gate with a big red jewel in the center. In front of the gate is a pedestal-sized rock pillar with a book on top, and in front of that is Rachel.] * Alys stops swinging his tail, and drops it. [Rachel flips a page in the book, and immediately several characters appear on the wall: A woman holding a ridiculously large key is standing at a strange looking door. A few feet away from her is a ragtag group of twenty-somethings, armed or not with a variety of weapons. * Arsenal` (arsenal@207-172-62-78.c3-0.drf-ubr1.atw-drf.pa.cable.rcn.com) Quit (Quit: Ah, technology. It's the perfect opportunity to set up another game."] [One of the people on the other-side, a nerdy kid with glasses, messy brown hair and violet eyes says, "Then what the hell *are* you going to do with that thing?"] (The Ueda's are involved. This can't end well.) [A taller kid, blond and muscular, wearing blue armor and carrying a naginata, says, "... "Do you have any idea how frequently they occur?"] I. Do. Not. [She stretches and moves towards the door. "You can read it yourself, if you like. Until somebody gets to the end, we won't be going anywhere."] The end of what? "Of the series." I suppose not. Though it is somewhat comforting. If apocalypses happen that often but the world has not ended yet, something must be right with the world. ["Or someone just likes heroics."] Or there are professional apocalypse fighters. I suppose that is one point of view. Although I am uncertain where Allah stands on such type of valor. [Rachel folds her arms. "Well, this is a bit of a problem. The other book clearly isn't here."] How do you know so much about this place, anyway? Have you been here before? Is it not obvious? Everyone we meet will have more information than we ever will. We. Should. Obtain. More. [Rachel laughs. "Because I researched the damn book before we got sucked into it. Of course I know what's going on."] * Alys shrugs. "Well, I figure other people know more than me. I'm new to all this. My-" she cuts herself off and frowns, then neatens Ten's hair carefully. * Ten 's blond hair is now looks much less like she was standing in a wind tunnel. "Thank you." * Griff_Khalil looks at Alys casually for a moment, and then to Rachel. "The question is why is Covenant seeking information on apocalypses?" * Alys smiles at Ten. "No problem. Do you want me to set you down or anything?" ["Yes, I bet you'd like to know, wouldn't you?"] * Ten shakes her head. "No." I would not ask otherwise. That is an annoying response. * Alys glances at Rachel. "Is there any reason to this place existing other than to have a book inside a book?" ["Sure there is. But I'm not about to tell you. Just because we're both trapped here doesn't make us friends, does it?"] Nah, but we've really got nothing better to talk about. No. But you acting in such a manner certainly inclines us more to be enemies. You can ask us questions, if you want. We could play charades! Or tic-tac-toe. I've got markers. (We're going to play on her arms.) (That's what they're there for!) ["Hmph. Alright. How is it you seem to know every move we make?"] I have no clue. You're asking the wrong members of the group. I. I hear the pigeons in Paris are really creepy and fat from all the tourists feeding them for decades. RFC One. One. Four. Nine? It would make sense. Talking and walking and taking over the world! ...I do not wish to think of it. * Griff_Khalil eyes Rachel. "Now perhaps you believe us. Unless by chance, you believe this to be a master of investigation in disguise." [Rachel shrugs. "Is she? How would I know."] (I need to go AFK for a bit.) [Rachel taps her foot.] I wish I was a master of something. But I'm really not. I'm thinking about learning how to dowse, though. Not the water kind, the map kind. Is there another name for that?
